Ife Nkechukwu is a development lead in the Core Web Platform at BlackRock. Erica Sundberg is a developer in the Core Web Platform team at BlackRock. Together, they hosted a meetup event to highlight the uses of Solr for website searches.

Solr is one of the main open source search engines and can be a great tool to help improve your on-site search. Ife and Erica have been evaluating how it can be used on BlackRock websites. They used this talk to walk through the high level process of customizing Solr to improve relevancy, help demystify some of its magic by discussing indexing and text analysis. They discussed the end to end lifecycle from defining the search and result set required and stepping into the process of best practices while defining how data sets should be defined and indexing/ text analysis layered on top in order to refine the Solr user experience.
